I am continuing to provide online tuition for my students throughout lockdown 3.

Ideally, I would like to offer face to face tuition from September 2021 so long as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, in January 2021, I upgraded my system and software to improve the way information is presented. In addition to Skype, I now offer tuition on Zoom, as this seems to be the preferred platform with new students. I am continually finding and improving methods and resources to present and teach online, in part for my own professional development but most importantly, for my students to have the best possible online teaching experience.

Seeing all my students getting on with life and their studies has provided me with a sense of positivity and I consider myself very fortunate to be surrounded by supportive families.

Since September 2020, I returned to a mix of face to face and online tuition, depending on the students' preference. It was wonderful to see students and their families in person again, whilst online students were continuing to progress. Given the current situation, I have decided to return fully to online tuition from November.

I have been impressed with how grounded and well adjusted all the students are, making the most out of a challenging situation. I have no doubt this attitude and approach will stand them in good stead. I am pleased to be a support to their academic journey throughout this pandemic.

Please contact me if you would like maths tuition online.

Since the lockdown in March, I have been offering online tuition sessions via Skype. Any challenges in adapting and delivering my material online were overcome by everyone's positive attitudes towards learning. Students that have been formally assessed at school have continued to report improvements in their grades throughout lockdown. In addition, I have been able to advance their learning by teaching new material and through my own continual assessment, students have understood these new topics. I will be resuming face to face socially distanced tuition from September, but some students have decided to continue with Skype tuition as it has been a success for them.

Communicating confidently via video conference is a skill in itself and giving students one to one attention in this environment helps build this skill. It will be useful for future online learning or even long term career prospects with an increasing number of interviews conducted in this way.

I have been very proud in the way my students have persevered and been unfazed by this new way of learning.

Whether you would like face to face socially distanced maths tuition or online maths tuition via Skype then please contact me.

About Me

I am a fully qualified teacher in Secondary Mathematics with over 10 years private tutoring experience. I graduated from the University of Leeds in 2000 with a 2-1 degree in Mathematics before completing my PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University College. I spent 5 years teaching in a classroom as well as tutoring privately.

A career change led to Environmental Health for 7 years. Upon qualifying, I specialised in food safety inspections. Following this, I spent time raising and looking after a young family, and completed various administrative duties for family businesses, before returning to my roots in private maths tuition in February 2019.

My interest in mathematics developed when I moved to Hong Kong aged 12. Although maths had always been my strength in the UK, I initially struggled with the standard expected in Hong Kong and required extra tutoring sessions. This provided first hand experience understanding the frustration in struggling with the subject, and how tutoring provided the safe space to clarify any misunderstandings.

Build Confidence And Success

The key to success in maths is to build confidence and then practice, practice and practice again! I believe successful tutoring begins by building a good rapport with the student. My ultimate goal is for the student to feel confident enough to approach a problem without having to turn to me for guidance at every step.

What To Expect

My tutoring approach is to create a relaxed atmosphere so the student feels at ease to ask any questions and discuss any difficulties. I am flexible, so our sessions can be driven by specific problems/questions brought by the student on the day, or I can plan a structured lesson in advance to reteach some problem concepts.

Alternatively, we can go through past papers, should they be at that stage. I have materials and resources to supplement student learning and will be informally assessing the student during our sessions. These assessments will help identify areas to work on in future. I can work in the style which best suits the parent and student.
